Shu'ayb
A
was
a
Rasul (Messenger)
whom
Allah
(God) had sent to the city of Madyan
(Madian); which was a part of
Ma'an, now in Syria.
People
of
Madyan
(Madian) were greedy people who
did not believe in
Allah
(God)
and worshipped other idols and deities.
They had loose characters and deceived people to make profits.
Most of them were trouble-makers who thrived upon telling
lies and making mischief.
There was a very small number of straight people who believed
in
Allah
(God).
Shu'ayb A told them that
Allah
(God)
has specifically sent them
to the non-believers of
Madyan
(Madian).
Shu'ayb
A began delivering the Message of
Allah
(God)
to them.
 |
And
to the people of Madyan (Madian), (We sent) their brother
Shu'ayb. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah!
You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. [La
ilaha illallah (none has the right to
be worshipped but Allah)]." Verily a clear
proof (sign) from your Lord has come unto you; so give
full measure and full weight and wrong not men in their
things, and do not do mischief on the earth after it
has been set in order, that will be better for you,
if you are believers.
Surah
(Chapter) Al-A'raf
(The Heights) The Qur-an 7:85 |
Most people of
Madyan
(Madian)
did not listen to
Shu'ayb
A and reacted sharply to his preachings.
They also mocked him and told him that he was a liar and a
possessed one and not a Messenger of
Allah
(God).
They
said: "You are only one of those bewitched!
"You are but a human being like us and verily,
we think that you are one of the liars!
Surah
(Chapter) Ash-Shu'ara
(The Poets) The Qur-an 26:185, 186 |
They
did not allow those few good people of their city who listened
to
Shu'ayb
A
and were on the Path of
Allah
(God).
Shu'ayb A
warned them of the Wrath of
Allah
(God),
they were invited upon them selves by their wrong deeds.
 |
"And
sit not on every road, threatening and hindering from
the Path of Allah those who believ in Him, and
seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were
but few, and He multiplied you. And see what was the
end of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers,
corrupters, liars).
Surah
(Chapter) Al-A'raf
(The Heights) The Qur-an 7:86 |
Shu'ayb A
tried to reason with the trouble-makers of his town. He pleaded
to them to allow the believers in
Allah
(God)
to follow their beliefs and asked them to continue with their
beliefs.
 |
"And
if their is a party of you who who believe in that with
which I have been sent and a party who do not believe,
so be patient until Allah judges between us,
and He is the Best of judges."
Surah
(Chapter) Al-A'raf
(The Heights) The Qur-an 7:87 |
The non-believers of
Madyan
(Madian)
had been blinded so much by their wrong-doings that they threatened
Shu'ayb
A
and
his followers to mend their ways by joining them or leave
their town.
 |
The
chiefs of those who were arrogant among his people said:
"We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu'aib, and
those who have believed with you from our town, or else
you (all) shall return to our religion." He said:
"Even though we hate it!?"
Surah
(Chapter) Al-A'raf
(The Heights) The Qur-an 7:88 |
The people of
Madyan
(Madian)
challenged
Shu'ayb
A
to bring the Wrath of
Allah
(God)
upon them if he was a true Messenger.
|
|
"So
cause a piece of the heaven to fall on us, if you are
the truthful!"
Surah
(Chapter) Ash-Shu'ara
(The Poets) The Qur-an 26:187 |
Shu'ayb A
warned them again and again about the wrath of
Allah
(God)
but they were adament and did not care.
Allah
(God)
caused a severe earthquake that devastated
Madyan
(Madian)
and killed all disbelievers.
|
|
Our
religion." He said: "Even though we hate it!?"So
the earthquake seized them and they lay (dead), prostrate
in their homes.
Surah
(Chapter) Al-A'raf
(The Heights) The Qur-an 7:91 |
Shu'ayb A
told his followers that the disbelievers did not believe in
the Message of
Allah
(God)
that he had deliverd and
Allah
(God)
punished them severely.
 |
Then
he (Shu'aib) turned from them and said: "O my people!
I have indeed conveyed my Lord's Message unto you and
I have given you good advice. Then how can I sorrow
for the disbelieving people's (destruction)."
Surah
(Chapter) Al-A'raf
(The Heights) The Qur-an 7:93 |
