Islam is
the oldest religion on earth. It is the final version of the same religion that
God had sent to mankind repeatedly, through His many Messengers. Adam, Noah,
Abraham, Lot, Ishmael, Isaac, David, Solomon, Job, Moses and Jesus were some of
the Messengers of God who had brought Islam to their people (Peace
be upon them). Muhammad (Peace be upon him)
was the last Messenger in the long chain of Messengers of God. Islam
means obedience to God, the Sole Creator and Sustainer of the universe. The
root word for Islam is Silm meaning Peace. Islam is a religion
of peace that has no room for violence, which it considers as one of the worst
crimes. Followers of Islam live in peace and harmony with the entire creation
of God. Forcing anyone into Islam is forbidden (The Holy
Qur-an 2:256). Luring anyone into Islam for material gains is also
not allowed. Islam
is free from discrimination based on cast, creed, color of skin, language or nationality.
Unlike
other religions, Islam does not only consist of a few rituals that are
to be practiced occasionally; instead it offers a complete way of life. Islam
has set simple guidelines to lead life in a manner that pleases God. Islam
is the simplest of all religions. It does not require intermediaries for carrying
out any of its religious rituals; therefore there is no clergy in Islam.
