Classification
of Book of Ahadith
Books of Ahadith are classified by the rank of their reliability
and also by their subject matter.
1. Sahih : The books of
Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim are called as Sahih. The scholars
of Hadith agree that these two Imams used the most strict
and comprehensive criteria for the evaluation of Ahadith hence
they are very authentic.
2. Sihah al Sittah : The
six original collections of Ahadith named after their authors;
Bukhari, Muslim, Nisai, Abu Daud, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi.
3. Jamaie : A comprehensive
collection of Ahadith dealing with all aspects of human life;
for instance Jamaie Tirmidhi.
4. Sunan : A collection
of Ahadith dealing only with the commandments (related to
Islamic Jurisprudence); for instance Sunan Abu Daud.
5. Mustakhrij : A
collection of Ahadith presented on the authority of another
Muhaddith for instance Mustakhrij Ismaili by Imam Bukhari.
6. Mustadrik : A collection of Ahadith by
a scholar utilizing the criteria of Imam Bukhari and Imam
Muslim; for instance Mustadrik of Imam Hakim.
