found out that ‘Umar bin Khattab

is going to physically hurt Muhammad
S.
He told
‘Umar bin Khattab
R
that his own sister Fatimah bint Khattab

and her husband Sa’id bin Zayd
R
had also accepted Islam.
‘Umar
bin Khattab R
was outraged at this news.
In
a fit of anger, he went to the house of Sa’id
bin Zayd
R,
to take care of his sister and brother in-law first.
When ‘Umar bin Khattab
R
reached there, both Sa’id bin Zayd
R
and his wife Fatimah
R
were reciting Qur-an.
They were reciting Surah al Hadid
Qur-an 57.
‘Umar bin Khattab
R
heard their recitation.
‘Umar bin Khattab
R
entered their house and beat up Sa’id bin
Zayd
R
badly.
‘Umar bin Khattab
R
also hit his sister Fatimah
R,
when she tried to save her husband Sa’id bin
Zayd
R.
‘Umar
bin Khattab
R
tried to force Sa’id bin Zayd
R
and Fatimah R
to quit their new religion Islam, and return
to the age old religion of their ancestors.
His
merciless beatings did not yield any results.
When ‘‘Umar bin Khattab
R
got tired of beating them, his curiosity took over. He asked
them to recite those strange verses back to him, which he
heard while entering their house.
Sa’id
bin Zayd R
and Fatimah bint Khattab
R
recited those beautiful verses from Qur-an
again. It resulted in a total change of heart of ‘Umar
bin Khattab
R.
He was awed by the truth in the words of Allah
(God).

went straight to Dar Arqam (House
of Arqam
R)
and converted to Islam immediately.
Sa’id
bin Zayd R
and his wife Fatimah

were instrumental in the conversion of ‘Umar bin
Khattab
R
who became one of the great followers of Islam.
Sa’id
bin Zayd R
participated in all the battles fought for the cause of
Islam.
He could not participate in the battle of
Badr because Muhammad
S
had sent him on some mission.
Sa’id
bin Zayd R
was born in Makkah in the year 22BH
(Before Hijrah) (600 AD). He died in Madinah
in the year 51H (Hijrah) (671 AD).
