Fadl
bin 'Abbas R was a cousin of
the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad S. He
was a son of 'Abbas bin 'Abdul
Muttalib R, an uncle of the Messenger of Allah,
Muhammad S.
His father 'Abbas bin 'Abdul
Muttalib R was the richest person in the family
of 'Abdul Muttalib, the grandfather of the Messenger
of Allah, Muhammad S. 'Abbas
bin 'Abdul Muttalib R was very close to the
Messenger of Allah, Muhammad S. He always
accompanied him and was instrumental in the major breakthrough
of Bay'ah (Pledge of Allegiance)
at 'Aqabah, where pilgrims from Yathrib
(Madinah) became the first
people to accept Islam outside the boundaries
of Makkah.
Fadl
bin 'Abbas R had another relation
with the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad
S. His mother Umm Fadl (Luhabah
Kubra) bint Harith al Hawazin
was a sister of Maymunah bint
Harith al Hawazin R, an Ummul
Mominin (Mothers of all Muslims),
a title given to the holy wives of the Messenger of Allah,
Muhammad S.
Fadl
bin 'Abbas R rode the camel of
the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad S with
him, on the day of Hajjatul Vada'
(The farewell Hajj), the
first and the last Hajj
(Pilgrimage to the Ka'bah) performed
by the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad S.
Fadl
bin 'Abbas R entered the grave
of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad S.
He had the rare privilege to help lay the Messenger of Allah,
Muhammad S to his final rest.
Fadl
bin 'Abbas R died in Sham
(Syria and Palestine) in the
year 18H (Hijrah) 639 CE), because
of Plague.
